The CTQP Asphalt Paving Level 1 Challenge Exam validates your knowledge through the written examination for candidates ready to test directly. This open-book, 2-hour multiple-choice exam (70% minimum passing grade) covers surface tolerance, random sampling, core sampling, and density calculation in accordance with FDOT specifications and CTQP requirements. Ideal for experienced technicians and roadway inspectors with the field knowledge to test without attending the full course. This exam covers the written portion only; the full Asphalt Paving Level 1 qualification also requires a separate proficiency examination. Results are graded by the CTQP Administrator within approximately two weeks, and the completed qualification is valid for 5 years.

Asphalt Paving Level 1 Challenge Exam (CTQP) — Written Exam

This exam is directed at candidates who do not need to take the course and wish to sit for the written examination directly, skipping classroom instruction entirely. Taking the Asphalt Paving Level 1 course is optional and not required for this exam.

What Is the Asphalt Paving Level 1 Qualification?

The CTQP Asphalt Paving Level 1 qualification, administered under Florida’s Construction Training and Qualification Program (CTQP), certifies the technician, private lab, or contractor employee qualified to perform acceptance tests such as surface tolerance (rolling straightedge and cross-slope), random sampling, core sampling and testing, and density calculation on FDOT roadway construction projects in Florida.

To obtain the full qualification, candidates must pass both a written examination and a proficiency examination — each with separate registration.
